Moose
Alces alces · Mammal
A huge browsing deer of northern forests, usually met alone near ponds, lakes and rivers at dawn or dusk. Bulls in the autumn rut and cows guarding calves will charge a person who comes too close. Northern peoples ate its meat and made leather of its hide, and in Russia and Sweden tame moose have even been milked.
