Medicinal Leech
Hirudo medicinalis · Worm
A bloodsucking worm of small muddy, weedy ponds, which turns towards a passing shadow and latches onto anyone who wades in. The bite is harmless but unpleasant. Physicians used it by the tens of thousands for bloodletting, and surgeons still use it today.
