Golden Eagle
Aquila chrysaetos · Bird
A great hunter of open country, met alone or in pairs, most often over mountains, and northern birds fly south when food runs short. It takes rabbits and sometimes lambs, which made ranchers its enemies. Falconers have prized it for centuries, and its feathers are sacred to Native American peoples.
