The 25 glyphs of the portal ring
Each glyph of the ring means a kind of place. An address is three to nine of them, read from the first: Deep, Stone, Shadow is a cave. A glyph said twice weighs more; a short address names a kind of place, a long one a precise place. The medieval ring carves them as runes, the science fiction gate draws them as machined marks with names of its own.
