Reindeer
Rangifer tarandus · Mammal
Wild herds gather by the tens of thousands in summer and walk thousands of kilometres a year, wintering in the forest where the snow is easier. People have also herded tame reindeer for thousands of years, so a traveller may meet a herd with its herders as well as a wild one. Both gave meat, fur and antlers to the peoples of the far north.
