King cobra in Indonesia · Max Tibby, CC0, Wikimedia Commons

The longest venomous snake in the world, usually 3 to 3.7 m and up to 5.5 m, active by day in forest near streams, bamboo thickets, mangrove swamps and nearby fields, from India to southern China, up to 2,000 m. It prefers to flee unless cornered, but nesting females are fierce. One bite can deliver 400 to 600 mg of venom and kill in as little as 30 minutes without treatment. It is poached for bushmeat, snake leather and Chinese medicine.
