Jaguar
Panthera onca · Mammal
A solitary cat of wet forests, swamps and riverbanks, active at dusk and dawn. It rarely attacks people unless cornered or wounded, but it may follow a traveller out of its territory, and it does kill cattle. Its spotted pelt fed a huge fur trade and its fangs are still smuggled.
