A small dark swift of Southeast Asia that spends nearly its whole life on the wing over forest, coast and open country, catching insects. It breeds in colonies in limestone caves, rock crevices and clefts in coastal cliffs, finding its way in the dark with a rattling echolocation call. Its nest is a little cup of hardened saliva stuck to the rock, and these white nests are the prized ingredient of bird's nest soup, said to be an aphrodisiac, sold by the kilogram for thousands of dollars.
