African Buffalo
Syncerus caffer · Mammal
African buffalo never stray far from water, grazing savanna, woodland, riverbanks and lowland and mountain forest in herds that range from a dozen beasts to more than a thousand, while old bulls keep to small bachelor groups. They feed at any hour and are among the most dangerous animals of Africa for their size, temper and heavy horns. They are hunted for meat and hides, and raid crops and pass diseases to cattle.
