Limewood

Plant · Common

White, fine-grained and easy to work but not strong, limewood is the classic wood for fine carving: Grinling Gibbons carved most of his garlands in it, for St Paul's Cathedral, Windsor Castle and Chatsworth, and the Veit Stoss altarpiece in Kraków is cut from it. It also makes spoons, light furniture and beehives.
