Labrador Tea Leaves

Plant · Common

Gathered in spring, one leaf per plant, for a medicinal tea or to season meat; colonists drank it instead of imported tea and Europe once flavoured ale with it. Its alkaloids poison livestock and can harm people in strong doses, and a very toxic kalmia (Kalmia angustifolia) growing near it can be mistaken for it.
