Calamus Root
Plant · Uncommon
The rhizome is used in Chinese, Indian and European herbal medicine, notably for digestion; it flavours beers, spirits and bitters, was candied in syrup, and its essential oil goes into perfume and keeps insects off furs. In large doses it causes long vomiting; it is said to bring hallucinations, but trials found none.
