Cortosis

A fibrous ore that kills an energy blade on contact: the blade does not cut it, it goes out, and stays out for the seconds it takes to restart. That is long enough to settle a duel, which is why a cortosis-woven gauntlet costs more than the ship that brought it. Pure cortosis is brittle and useless as a weapon; it only works as a facing over something else.
