Skarn
Ore deposit
Where a granite intrudes limestone or dolostone, hot fluids replace the carbonate rock with calcium, iron and magnesium silicates, garnet and pyroxene above all, and can leave ores of iron, copper, tin, tungsten, zinc, lead or gold. The word is an old Swedish miners' term for the waste rock of the iron mines of Persberg.
