White-lipped Peccary
Tayassu pecari · Mammal
A wild pig of humid forests, also met in dry forest, grassland and mangrove, that roams in herds from a handful to over 200, sometimes up to 2,000. Herds stand their ground when attacked and are known to kill dogs, so a hunter can drop several before the rest flee. It is hunted for its meat and its hide, and herds raid maize, manioc and sugar cane.
