Siberian Ibex
Capra sibirica · Mammal
The longest and heaviest wild goat, spread over the mountains of Central Asia from Afghanistan and northern Pakistan to the Tian Shan, the Altai and Mongolia; the males carry great black horns ridged across the front. It lives mostly above the tree line on steep slopes and rocky scree, among high steppe, alpine meadows and semi-desert, and comes down the slopes in winter to find food. Herds of 5 to 30 are usual. Wolves, dholes, snow leopards and brown bears hunt it, and people hunt it for its meat, its hide and its horns as trophies.
