Llama
Lama glama · Mammal · Domestic
Llamas no longer live wild; Andean herders keep them on the high Altiplano of Peru and Bolivia and across the Andes, between about 2,300 and 4,000 metres. They live in groups of up to twenty, and meet a threat by charging, kicking, biting and spitting. They carried loads of over 60 kg for 30 km a day, are shorn for their fleece, and their dung fertilised Andean fields.
