Iberian Lynx
Lynx pardinus · Mammal
A spotted lynx of 7 to 16 kg, found only in southern Spain and Portugal: Sierra Morena, Doñana, Montes de Toledo and a few valleys where it has been brought back. It wants a patchwork of thick Mediterranean scrub and open grassy clearings below 1,300 m, and hunts at dusk and by night. Rabbits make 80 to 100% of its food; it fell to 94 animals in 2002 and numbered some 2,000 in 2024.
