Horse
Equus caballus · Mammal · Domestic
Wild horses once ranged from Europe and north Africa to China and Mongolia; domestic horses now live everywhere, and feral herds roam several continents. A herd is a few mares and one to a few stallions, grazing mostly at dawn and dusk and sleeping on their feet in short spells. Horses pull ploughs and carriages, carry riders to war and market, and give hair for many goods and manure for the fields.
