Giant Honey Bee
Apis dorsata · Insect
A wild honey bee of South and Southeast Asia that hangs a single open comb, up to 1.8 m wide, from high branches, cliffs or buildings, sometimes 200 colonies to one tree, and moves on with the seasons. It is notably aggressive and has killed at least one person. Honey hunters take its honey (up to 45 kg a nest) and wax with smoke.
