Edible Dormouse
Glis glis · Mammal
The largest dormouse, a grey squirrel-like rodent of 120 to 150 g that nearly doubles its weight before winter. It lives in oak and beech woods from sea level to 2,000 m, in the maquis and in orchards, and gets into caves and houses. It feeds by night on beech mast, seeds, nuts and fruit, strips bark, and sleeps from October to April, longer in lean years.
