The one-humped camel is kept across the hot deserts of North Africa, Arabia and on to northern India, and feral herds roam central Australia; it does poorly in cold or damp climates. A well handled camel is little danger, though its size alone can hurt a careless handler. Desert peoples lived off its milk, meat, wool, leather and dung for fuel, and used it to carry their loads.
