Dorcas Gazelle
Gazella dorcas · Mammal
A small gazelle, 55 to 65 cm at the shoulder and 15 to 20 kg, of the Sahara, the Horn of Africa and Arabia, in semi-desert, steppe, wadis, dune fields and savanna. It gets most of its water from the plants it eats, lives in pairs in hard times and in family herds in good ones, and keeps to dusk and night where it is hunted. People hunt it for meat, and its pelts and horns are sold in Moroccan markets despite its protection; it is listed as vulnerable.
