Domestic Yak

Yaks belong to the Tibetan Plateau, grazing alpine meadow and steppe between about 3,200 and 5,400 metres. Their broad hooves carry heavy loads where no other beast of burden can, and wild yaks sometimes attack and kill domestic ones. Herders spin the adult hair into blankets and tents, clothe themselves in the young animals' fur, make butter and cheese from the milk, and burn the dung where wood is scarce.
