Bearded Vulture
Gypaetus barbatus · Bird
A huge scavenger of the high mountains, usually seen alone above two thousand metres, that drops bones onto rocks from a great height to crack them. It is harmless to people. Shepherds long shot and poisoned it in the false belief that it carried off lambs.
