Atlantic Puffin
Fratercula arctica · Bird
Puffins nest in burrows dug into cliff tops of the North Atlantic, most of them in Iceland, and spend the rest of the year alone on the open sea. They fly out by day to fish, sometimes tens of kilometres from the nest. Islanders netted them in great numbers to eat fresh, salted or smoked, and took their feathers and some eggs.
