Alpine Marmot
Marmota marmota · Mammal
Family groups live in burrows in the high meadows above the forest, and a sentry whistles shrilly when anyone comes near. They sleep underground from October to May. Mountain people ate them, wore their teeth on belts and rubbed their fat on aching joints.
