Historical model
Modelled on the P&O mail services to Bombay and the Far East (which sailed from London and Tilbury rather than Southampton, with the overland passengers joining at Marseilles) and P&O's intermediate steamers to Calcutta by Colombo and Madras, and on the British India lines: the fortnightly mail from Bombay by the Seychelles to Mombasa, Zanzibar, Beira and Durban, the weekly Gulf mail from Bombay by Karachi, Muscat and Bushire to Basra, and the Calcutta to Rangoon, Penang and Singapore service.
