Ebony

Not the wood. Tamriel's ebony is a black volcanic glass-metal quarried around Red Mountain, held to be the crystallised blood of the dead god Lorkhan. It is brutal to work, wanting heat and patience beyond what an ordinary smithy can supply, and what comes out of it is nearly black and reflects almost nothing.

Lore & Narrative
Ebony armor is the second-finest non-enchanted armor in Tamriel, surpassed only by Daedric. Its divine origin means that every piece carries a trace of Lorkhan's sacrifice, and warriors who wear it sometimes report dreams of a red star falling from the heavens.
