Chandlers in a medieval or fantasy town: how many, and where
About one household of chandlers for every 3,000 townspeople. Counted as masters and heads of household: journeymen, apprentices and servants come on top. The Paris tax roll of 1292 names 71 of them, for a city of about 220,000 people: only those who paid the taille, so fewer than there were. About as common as money-changers and bakers and cooks.
