L'un des minéraux les plus anciens de la Terre: un grain des Jack Hills, en Australie-Occidentale, a 4,4 milliards d'années. Contient de l'uranium et du thorium en traces, permettant une datation radiométrique précise. Son indice de réfraction élevé et sa forte dispersion donnent aux pierres taillées un éclat et des feux exceptionnels.
