Un groupe de minéraux phosphatés dont l'hydroxylapatite carbonatée forme la partie minérale de l'émail dentaire et des os. Le phosphate le plus courant des roches, présent en petites quantités dans la plupart des roches ignées. L'essentiel des phosphates extraits, et donc des engrais phosphatés, provient de l'apatite.
